  2. Frontier is a historical period drama co-produced by Discovery Canada and Netflix that extensively pulls from the Western genre. It stars none other than our very own Khal Drogo, Jason Momoa, and chronicles the North American fur trade in the late 1700s in Canada. He portrays an Irish outlaw and part Cree working to break the Hudson Bay Company's monopoly on the corrupt fur trade. The program rates incredibly high on our list due to an enticing narrative and excellent performers.

Frontier was renewed for a third season on September 20, 2017, ahead of the previous second season. 4. The Ranch is an American streaming television comedy/drama series. It stars Ashton Kutcher and Danny Masterson as brothers Colt and Rooster Bennett, respectively, who help run their father Beau's Colorado cattle ranch (Sam Elliott). It also stars Debra Winger as their mother, Maggie, a local bar owner, and Elisha Cuthbert as Colt's love interest Abby, a local school teacher. Other cast members from That 70s Show who have recurring roles include Wilmer Valderrama, Kurtwood Smith, and Debra Jo Rupp. It debuted in 2016 on Netflix and ran for four seasons in eight parts.

Westerns usually have a reputation for being passionate, violent, and aggressive. 'Au contraire, The Ranch' is a comedy series. But we think that this is what makes the show so unique. It explores the lives of the Bennetts, who live at the ranch as they try to make the best of their situation. On the surface, it sounds like just another comedy show. But we think that 'The Ranch' actually modernizes the Western genre a lot. The image most associated with the genre is a cowboy from an era before industrialization brought small municipalities to their knees. The Ranch may not have the same look, but it incorporates many similar elements from the Old West stories. Also, basing the premise on recent times allows us to look at how a cowboy ranch exists in the 21st century.

Each season consists of 20 episodes into two parts, each containing ten episodes. The episodes are approximately 30 minutes in length. All episodes are named after American country music songs.

  5. From Dusk till Dawn: The Series is an American horror television series developed by Robert Rodriguez. It forms part of the film franchise, direct-to-video, comic, and cult following of From Dusk till Dawn, expanding on the chronicles of the Gecko Brothers, Seth and Richie; The Fuller family; and Santanico Pandemonium. The series adds to the film's tone, with new characters and backstories, while expanding the snake creatures' Mesoamerican mythology. The series also references the Popol Vuh, drawing on its rich, mythological history and, in particular, on the legend of the Hero Twins Hunahpú and Xbalanqué to add greater depth to the backstories and to fully flesh out the characters of the show's protagonists, the Gecko Brothers, Seth, and Richie.

On March 11, 2014, From Dusk till Dawn premiered on Rodriguez's newly launched El Rey Network. Outside the United States and Latin America, the series is marketed as a Netflix original. FactoryMade Ventures produced it in association with Miramax and executive produced by Rodriguez.

Seth Gecko and his aggressive, unpredictable brother, Richard "Richie" Gecko, are wanted by the FBI and Texas Ranger Freddie Gonzalez after a bank heist killed numerous people, including police officers and Gonzalez's mentor, Texas Ranger Earl McGraw. The Geckos are on their way to the Mexican border, chased by Gonzalez when they come across former priest Jacob Fuller and his family, whom they kidnap by commandeering the Fuller's RV. Don Carlos, a drug lord, reroutes them to a strip club packed by snakelike individuals who must all struggle for food to survive until morning.

  6. Breaking Bad is an American neo-Western crime drama television series created and produced by Vince Gilligan. It was set and filmed in Albuquerque, New Mexico, and tells the story of Walter White (Bryan Cranston), an underpaid, overqualified, and dispirited high school chemistry teacher struggling with a recent diagnosis of stage-three lung cancer. Walter turns to a life of crime, partnering with his former student Jesse Pinkman (Aaron Paul), producing and distributing crystal meth to secure his family's financial future before he dies while navigating the dangers of the criminal underworld. According to Gilligan, the title is a Southern colloquialism meaning "to raise hell."

    Breaking Bad's
co-stars are Anna Gunn and RJ Mitte as Walter's wife Skyler and son Walter Jr., and Betsy Brandt and Dean Norris as Skyler's sister Marie Schrader and her husband Hank, a DEA agent. Others include Bob Odenkirk as Walter's and Jesse's sleazy lawyer Saul Goodman, Jonathan Banks as a private investigator and fixer Mike Ehrmantraut, and Giancarlo Esposito as drug kingpin Gus Fring. The final season introduces Jesse Plemons as the criminally ambitious Todd Alquist and Laura Fraser as Lydia Rodarte-Quayle, a cunning business executive secretly managing Walter's global meth sales for her company.

Instead of the outlaws wearing cowboy hats and riding horses, 'Breaking Bad' shows them as otherwise domesticated individuals. The wilderness of the desert landscape is as crucial to the inherent wilderness of the characters as it is to the classic Western films of yore. In 2013, 'Breaking Bad' even entered the Guinness Book of World Records as the most critically acclaimed show of all time. A spin-off prequel series titled 'Better Call Saul' also comes highly recommended.

Spike Spiegel leads the ragtag group, and they take on several life-threatening assignments, often saving the world in the process but only if they are paid the right price.

  8. Heartland is a Canadian family comedy-drama television series that debuted in Canada on CBC on October 14, 2007. The series is based on the Heartland book series by Lauren Brooke and follows Amy Fleming and her older sister Louise "Lou" Fleming on their Albertan-based family ranch. 'Heartland,' with their widowed grandfather Jack Bartlett, their father Tim Fleming, and hired farmhand Ty Borden. While experiencing the highs and lows of life on the ranch, the family bonds and grows closer.

The booted-up cowboy will make you think of the Old West, and we're not contesting this either. But it is also essential to uncover the deeper meaning behind the plot. In conventional Westerns, we have the protagonist usually seeking revenge to make things right, albeit with the help of guns. While this exact element may be missing from 'Heartland,' the show still focuses on the themes of right versus wrong, family, love, compassion, and protecting what is important to you. After all, there is a reason that it is going into its 14th season.
