Although he admits that he did not study to get a job, Masondo will not rule out the possibility of becoming a board member at different companies with good salary conditions.

  4. For a considerable length of time, Joe Lartey along with his frequent commentator Harry Thompson, dominated the airwaves when covering national events for the state broadcaster GBC (Ghana Broadcasting Corporation). And while Lartey excels at commenting on most political and social functions, football is arguably his forte. In the days before private media outlets sprang up across Ghana, Lartey and his colleagues enjoyed the exclusivity they valued with some good work. The phrase 'Over to you, Joe Lartey', coined by Thompson and mentioned on the airwaves whenever Lartey is scheduled by a partner to take on microphone duties from his partner during play has become lingo of Ghanaian. Lartey was very knowledgeable and, through his eloquence, became the first president of the Sports Writers Association of Ghana (SWAG), an organization of which he is now a patron. Even in retirement, Lartey continues to inspire a whole generation of commentators who have listened to and admired him, possibly including the next on this list.

  5. Among the football and animation commentators, Kwabena Yeboah (was born in 1960) is one of the best in Africa. During the commentary, Yeboah, who has been dubbed one of the oldest surviving identities in the Ghanaian media, cheers every goal with the brand shouts of 'Oluwaaa', sometimes followed by 'Wunderbar' (German for 'great'). As a respected person on Ghanaian sport, Yeboah is also an experienced writer - notably the founding editor of the African Sports newspaper - and a long time presenter of the show "Sports Highlights" is broadcast Monday on Ghana Television. Like fine wine, Yeboah continues to defy age even as fresher and younger competition continues to emerge.

  6. Around the time Joe Lartey was in power in Ghana, Nigerian Ernest Okonkwo (?- 1990) was also becoming increasingly popular in his homeland. Okonkwo is often regarded as the disruptor of Nigerian football commentators. However, for someone whose generous expertise came up with amusing nicknames for his contemporaries' footballers, being tagged 'doyen' was hardly taken seriously. 'Math', 'Block Buster', 'Chairman', 'Man Mountain' and 'Chief Justice' are just a few of the flattering nicknames Okonkwo gave to Nigerian national stars of the time, namely Segun Odegbami, Aloysius Atuegbu, Christian, Chukwu, Emmanuel Okala and Adokie Amasimeka respectively. To his credit, Okonkwo never considered his work a perfunctory task. At times, he speaks out in his opinion about poor performances and on-field behavior that he considers unprofessional. Just last year, Babatunde Fashola, governor of the Nigerian state of Lagos, decided to name the Teslim Balogun Stadium Press Gallery after Okonkwo and Ishola Folorusho, another Nigerian ace commentator.

  7. If Okonkwo is known to many Nigerians, Lartey is extremely famous in Ghana, then when it comes to Zambia, Dennis Liwewe (1936-2014) can't be missed. During the glory days of 'KK 11', Liwewe's career flourished as his voice boomed. In the process of building a goal, Liwewe will hastily utter the words in her own inimitable style and end it with a thunderous shot or a terrible climax, depending on whether Zambia go ahead or behind as a result. Possessing a lot of emotion when running commentary, objectivity, for Liwewe - as well as a number of other African commentators of the period - he really considered it part of his patriotic responsibility to support his country's team against opponents from elsewhere. Liwewe, now over 70 years old and long retired, remains outspoken about the Zambian national team's fortunes, and was admitted to hospital in late 2013 for health but is now said to be recovering well.
