135° East Gin
In 2016, the Kaikyo Distillery, a Japanese whisky distillery in Akashi, Hyogo Prefecture, launched the Japanese gin brand 135° East. The 135th Meridian East, which travels through Akashi, is where the gin gets its name. And if you want to visit, the distillery is available for tours and tastings.
A rich and energizing flavor character may be found at 135° East. The Japanese botanicals lend a distinctive and tasty touch, while the juniper berries give gin its traditional flavor. The former contains yuzu peel, Sansho pepper, shizo, Japanese green tea, and sencha, for a total of five ingredients. Noticeably, the gin has a 42% ABV when it is bottled after being distilled in a copper pot still.
Although the gin tastes great neat or on the rocks, it truly comes to life in cocktails. One honor that 135° East has received is a gold medal from the 2017 San Francisco World Spirits Competition. The gin is currently offered in Japan, the United States, and Europe.
