Al Sahwa Schools
Al Sahwa, located in Muscat, Oman, is a bilingual IB World School that serves both the local Omani community and the bilingual expatriate community. Established in 1993 under the ownership of the Royal Office and Royal Oman Police Pension Funds, the school is built on land donated by the late His Majesty Sultan Qaboos bin Said. Its mission is to 'provide high-quality international education while embracing traditional values based on the foundations of Oman’s cultural heritage.'
When Al Sahwa opened in 1993, it had one class each from Kindergarten 1 to Grade 11, with around 300 students. The curriculum then was based on the British National Curriculum and the Omani Ministry of Education programs. Over the past 30 years, the school has grown to over 1100 students and 200 staff, representing 31 nationalities, with facilities and programs to match.
Al Sahwa is now a fully authorized IB World School accredited by the Council of International Schools. It follows the IB Primary Years Programme from KG1 to Grade 6, the Cambridge Curriculum from Grades 7 to 10, and the Omani General Education Diploma in Grades 11 & 12. A rigorous Islamic Studies, Arabic, and Social Studies program complements this comprehensive curriculum.
As part of its ongoing commitment to excellence, in 2013, Al Sahwa Schools became the first local bilingual school to offer the International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme (PYP). This milestone was followed by efforts to introduce the IB Middle Years Program (MYP) and IB Diploma Program (DP). In 2020-2021, the school achieved full authorization for MYP and DP. Alongside the DP, the school also offers Thanawiya Amma.
