American International School of Bucharest
The American International School of Bucharest (AISB) is a leading IB school in Eastern Europe, welcoming students of all nationalities from early childhood to grade 12 since 1962. The school year is divided into two semesters, from late August to mid-June.
AISB provides an international English curriculum tailored to the diverse student community in Bucharest. Students can pursue the International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma in grades 11-12, the IB Middle Years Program (MYP) in grades 6-10, and the IB Primary Years Program (PYP) in grades EC3-5. The Early Learning Center (ELC) incorporates educational ideas from Reggio Emilia, connecting them with the PYP (IBO).
The school boasts specialists in various subjects such as art, drama, film, physical education, music, design, computers, Spanish, and French, catering to different grade levels. AISB features a Learning Support program for students with mild to moderate learning and social-emotional/behavioral needs. Learning Support specialists collaborate with teachers to provide personalized instruction, accommodations, and a modified curriculum, creating Individualized Learning Plans (ILPs) for students in this program.
Families can arrange ongoing 1:1 support through a Learning Intervention Focused Tutor (LIFT) at their expense. AISB holds accreditation from the New England Association of Schools and Colleges (NEASC) and is authorized by the International Baccalaureate Organization (IB) for the IB Primary Years, Middle Years, and Diploma Programs.
AISB encourages students to participate in eight seasonal sports: basketball, cross-country, football, softball, swimming, tennis, track & field, and volleyball. Through SCIS (Sports Council of International Schools), students have opportunities for local matches and tournaments in BISAAC (Bucharest International Schools Athletics & Activities Conference) and with Romanian schools and clubs, providing international travel experiences.
