Andersonville
Andersonville is a little neighborhood on the outskirts of Chicago featuring historic buildings, trendy local stores, and a vibrant food and bar scene to explore. It is also considered as one of the best shopping places in Chicago. This neighborhood, which was founded in the 1850s by Swedish immigrants, retains a distinct Scandinavian flavor. Midsommarfest, an annual street event highlighting the area's Swedish roots, is a must-see. It's also a refuge for the city's LGBTQ+ people, along with Chicago's Boystown neighborhood, with an annual Pride event and many gay-friendly shops proudly flying the rainbow flag.
Andersonville is located around 9 miles north of downtown Chicago. The neighborhood's attractiveness to visitors is reflected in the welcome sign, which reads "A Great Place to Dine, Shop, and Live." There's much to eat and shop for along North Clark Street, where cafes and boutiques are housed in attractive brick rowhouses. The Swedish American Museum is located near the southern end of the strip.
