Armazéns do Chiado
Armazéns do Chiado is a tiny and intimate shopping center in Lisbon's old center. The center is housed in the old Grandes Armazéns do Chiado, a famous and luxurious store that was destroyed in the 1988 Lisbon fire. The new Armazéns do Chiado has reclaimed part of its former glory. This attractive shopping complex, erected behind the listed façade, was intended to support the city's expanding urbanization and modernity. The structure, which was completed in 1848, was destroyed in a fire. Armazéns do Chiado reopened its doors in 1999, following a reconstruction initiative to recapture the beauty of bygone ages.
The complex, which opened in 1999, has six levels and 55 specialty businesses, cafes, and restaurants, as well as an excellent eating place with a wonderful view of the city center and Chiado. Armazéns do Chiado has become the 'Lisbon meeting place' for both local people and the city's millions of visitors, hosting both cultural and promotional events, and represents the modern shopping standard for the Chiado and Baixa districts.
