Assam Bengal Navigation
With three cruise lines, Assam Bengal Navigation is the largest and most experienced operator in India. ABN has pioneered long-distance river cruises in India, launching their first ship in 2003 with a unique cruise on the Brahmaputra River in Assam. Then in 2007 they became the first operator to conduct Hooghly river cruises between Kolkata and Farakka, and currently operate programs on the main part of the Indus Ganges from Patna to the holy city of Varanasi .
The 12-cabin Charaidew is the oldest ship in the fleet, first launched in 2003; Sukapha, again with 12 cabins, added in 2006; and finally Rajmahal is the newest one, launched in 2014 and the biggest one with 22 cabins. All three ships have comfortable lounge and bar areas, a dining room and a large covered sundeck. All cabins are bamboo-clad, air-conditioned and have a private bathroom, with a small balcony or French windows. Locally hand-woven fabrics and comfortable sugarcane sofas and chairs add to the inviting décor. Food on board is a fusion of Assamese (lighter than most Indian dishes) and Continental. Wine, beer and spirits available.
