Autumn Sonata (1978)

Autumn Sonata is a drama film directed by Ingmar Bergman and starring Ingrid Bergman (in her final film appearance), Liv Ullmann, and Lena Nyman, released in 1978. Its story revolves around Charlotte, a great classical pianist and her neglected daughter, who meet for the first time in years and have painful discussions about how they have wounded each other.

Ingrid Bergman and Ingmar Bergman collaborated for the first and only time on this film. Autumn Sonata was also the final feature film for both Ingrid and Ingmar. The film's ending leaves the possibility of a reunion between mother and daughter open. Ingrid Bergman was nominated for Best Actress and Ingmar Bergman was nominated for Best Original Screenplay.
