Avantium is a leading technology company in the field of renewable and sustainable chemistry. The company was founded in 2000 and is headquartered in Amsterdam, Netherlands. Another promising technology developed by Avantium is the DAWN technology, which converts woody feedstock into industrial sugars and lignin. Lignin can be used for energy generation, but also for higher-value applications such as bio-asphalt. Avantium has recently constructed the world's first test road with lignin produced in the Netherlands, in collaboration with Roelofs and the province of Groningen.
