Balenciaga - 1919
The Balenciaga brand was founded by Cristobal Balenciaga. In the early stages of its establishment, Balenciaga was favored by the nobility and the Spanish royal family for its luxurious and aristocratic designs. However, during the Spanish Civil War, the brand was forced to suspend operations and move to Paris, France.
Despite going through many ups and downs due to the effects of the war, Balenciaga still rose to become one of the leading fashion brands. Balenciaga's peak talent has been firmly established since the 1950s, such as the "Unfitted" dresses designed by Balenciaga in 1955, then developed into Chemise from 1958. From the late '50s and into the '60s, Balenciaga's creations focused on fabrics, but mainly towards heavy fabrics, intricate embroidery and striking materials.
