Berkeley Advanced Media Institute
Berkeley Advanced Media Institute is a part of the UC Berkeley Graduate School of Journalism. It offers online and in-person courses and workshops on various aspects of multimedia journalism, including podcasting. BAMI's mission is to empower a new generation of storytellers with the skills and tools to create engaging and impactful audio stories.
BAMI's podcast courses are designed for anyone who wants to learn how to produce a quality podcast series from start to finish. You will learn from industry experts and instructors who have experience in creating successful podcasts for various platforms and audiences. You will also get hands-on practice with audio equipment and software, as well as feedback and guidance from your instructors and peers.
BAMI's podcast courses vary in length, format, and price. Some of them are:
- Podcasting: Telling Stories In Sound: This is a 5-week online course that covers the key techniques of developing a podcast series, such as storytelling, interviewing, scripting, editing, and promoting. The course fee is $1,495 USD and includes access to exclusive resources and a certificate upon completion.
- Podcast Bootcamp: This is a 7-week intensive in-person certificate program that focuses on developing a branded podcast series from ideation through to distribution and monetization. The course fee is $3,995 USD and includes a free Zoom portable digital audio recorder. The course also provides networking opportunities with fellow students and alumni, as well as industry experts and guests.
- Podcast Sound Design: This is a 2-hour online mini-course that introduces the basics of pre- and post-production sound design for podcasts. You will learn from professional sound designers how to enhance your audio stories with sound effects, music, and ambiance. The course fee is $95 USD.
