BrainChip, the next name on the list of the largest software companies in Australia by market cap, is a technology firm located in Australia founded in 2004 by Peter Van Der Made that focuses on developing advanced artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) hardware. The MetaTF development environment, which facilitates the training and deployment of spiking neural networks (SNN); and the AKD1000 neuromorphic processor, a hardware implementation of their spiking neural network system, are the company's main products. The technology behind BrainChip is based on a neuromorphic computer architecture that attempts to imitate the way the human brain operates. The business is a partner in the Intel Foundry Services and Arm AI partnership.

The most notable product company - Akida 1000 processor, is a neural processing device with 1.2 million artificial neurons and 10 billion artificial synapses that operates on an event-based basis. It evaluates critical inputs at specific points using event-based possessing. The results are saved in on-chip memory units. BrainChip announced the completion of the design of their AKD1500 reference chip on January 29, 2023. BrainChip introduced the second generation of the Akida platform on March 6, 2023. BrainChip now supports 8-bit weights and activations, as well as a Vision Transformer (ViT) engine and hardware support for a Temporal Event-Based Neural Net (TENN).
