Byron College - The British International School
Byron College is the next school on the list of the best British schools in Athens. It was founded by a group of idealistic parents and educators who felt that Athens needed a school that would offer an inclusive, egalitarian British education, pursue academic excellence, and uphold the highest standards of behavior, self-discipline, and community involvement.
English is the medium of instruction, and students follow a curriculum largely derived from the UK National Curriculum. The student body at Byron College is diverse, which is why the college offers a strong EAL program, addresses the needs of Greek parents, offers a range of modern languages, and designs its history and geography curricula to reflect this diversity. Additionally, the college recognizes its responsibility to develop citizens who are aware of the global challenges that society faces.
All students at Byron College- The British International School attend the same school on the same campus and have the same days off from work. Children as young as three can enroll in the school, and many stay until they are eighteen when they depart to pursue their higher education.
Through Imaginative Learning Projects (ILPs), the curriculum is taught. Cornerstones offers a strict framework for essential skills that describes the expectations for every subject at the end of the year.
Several subject areas are covered by a variety of knowledge-rich cross-curricular projects, with an emphasis on the growth and development of subject-specific knowledge and skills in disciplines like science, history, geography, and art and design.
A vital aspect of life at Byron College for students is volunteering, both inside and outside the campus. In the Athens region, students actively participate in fundraising, volunteer work, and community service initiatives that foster a sense of shared responsibility and a deeper comprehension of contemporary Greece—a country that many of the student body consider to be their adopted or host nation.
The House System at Byron College is a crucial component of the Whole School Policy. Every employee and student at the school is given a House upon enrollment: Theseus (Red), Perseus (Blue), Hercules (Green), and Athena (Yellow).
