Cambridge Insight Meditation Center
Cambridge Insight Meditation Center (CIMC), established in 1985, is a non-residential urban center dedicated to the practice of Insight Meditation (vipassana). Located in the heart of Cambridge, it provides a serene environment where people of various backgrounds can cultivate a contemplative life amidst the city's complexities.
CIMC is open to individuals of all cultural and spiritual backgrounds, races, nationalities, classes, sexual orientations, gender identities, ages, and abilities. The center emphasizes inclusivity and diversity in its community.
Guiding the center are experienced teachers. Larry Rosenberg is the founder and a guiding teacher at CIMC. Narayan Helen Liebenson has been teaching since the center's inception. Rosenberg is known for his insightful books on Insight Meditation, and Liebenson brings over 35 years of experience in the Theravada tradition. Other notable teachers include Madeline Klyne, who has been involved with the dharma since 1986.
CIMC offers a variety of affinity groups to cater to the diverse needs of its community. The 35 & Under Sangha allows young adults to practice the dharma in a supportive setting. It includes guided sitting practice and walking meditation. The Disability & Chronic Illness Sangha welcomes those who self-identify as disabled and/or chronically ill. Elders Sangha, aimed at individuals aged 65 and above, focuses on the challenges and inspirations of aging through meditation and discussion.
For the LGBTQIA+ community, CIMC has a dedicated practice space with sitting and walking meditation, followed by dharma teaching or discussion. The Little Buddhas Sangha offers an informal setting for parents and young children (ages 3-8) to explore mindfulness through playful activities.
Parents Sangha allows parents to practice together. The People of Color Sangha and White Awake Sangha address racial issues and inclusivity. They provide spaces for people of color and white practitioners to explore the intersection of dharma and social issues.
