Cardboard Boat Race
The annual Cardboard Boat Race has quickly become the highlight of Gibraltar's most famous festivals. This famous festival takes place every August, attracting large numbers of visitors and locals alike with the intention of witnessing brave marines rowing over 1,000 meters - some sinking in soggy piles of paper on the way.
The Cardboard Boat Race is the most famous festival in Gibraltar that attracts competitors from all over Gibraltar, adults, and youth, business people, and services combined and is always fun-filled. With wood, plastic, fiberglass, and any kind of fully floating foam banned outright, it took a lot of ingenuity and recklessness to create a vessel capable of lasting the competition. Participants inject significant creative flair into both boats and costumes with dragon boats, animated 'cars', and pirate ships all appearing at the starting line.
