Mengniu is a leading company in dairy and ice cream products. The company is headquartered in Hohhot, Inner Mongolia, and manufactures dairy products under the Mengniu brand. Mengniu was founded in 1999 by a man named Niu Gensheng, who discovered a hole in the Chinese dairy market for new production.
He named the company Mengniu, a combination of two Chinese words, where "Meng" refers to the company's origin in Inner Mongolia and "niu" means cattle. Gensheng began his journey in the city of Hohhot in Inner Mongolia on a small rented plot of 53 square meters, but Mengniu had almost immediate success with ice cream production. Not long after that, the company also produced other products with a focus on products with a long lifespan.
Mengniu's products include liquid dairy products such as superheated milk (UHT), yogurt, dairy beverages, ice cream, and other dairy products such as powdered milk and milk tablets. The Mengniu Dairy Company operates in three segments: the liquid milk products segment, which produces and distributes processed pasteurized milk, dairy beverages, and yogurt; the ice cream segment, which manufactures and distributes ice cream products; and the other dairy product segment, which manufactures and distributes powdered milk products and processed milk tablets.
