Choi Min Sik (최민식)
Choi Min-sik is a South Korean actor born on April 27, 1962. He is best known for his roles in popular films such as "Oldboy" and "The Admiral: Roaring Currents". He also co-starred with actress Scarlett Johansson in the famous 2014 French film, "Lucy". Along with actors such as Song Kang-ho and Sol Kyung-gu, this trio of actors is considered the talented actors of Korean cinema.
Choi Min-sik's acting career began to have a breakthrough when he played a North Korean agent in the 1999 film "Shiri". The film not only received high praise from critics. but also achieved commercial success. His role in this film brought Choi Min Sik the "Best Actor" award at the Grand Bell Awards. Also in 1999, he played a part in "Hamlet", and later starred in "Happy End". In 2001 he received the role of a "gangster" in the movie "Failan" with actress Cecilia Cheung or Cecilia Cheung.
In 2002 he played Jang Seung-eop, a Joseon painter in the film "Chihwaseon" by director Im Kwon-taek. This film won the "Best Director" category at the Cannes Film Festival. In 2003 he became famous in Korea and many countries around the world thanks to his role as the main character in the movie "Oldboy" directed by Park Chan-wook. The 2010 film by director Kim Jee-woon, titled "I Saw the Devil", is a violent horror film that received a lot of criticism from the audience. In 2013, he continued to star in a gangster film directed by Park Hoon-jung, "New World." The film achieved commercial success as well as critical acclaim.
