Cipla Medpro South Africa
Cipla Medpro, headquartered in Cape Town, is one of Africa's biggest pharmaceutical businesses. It is, in reality, the world's third largest pharmaceutical company (by value), with over 2000 pharmaceuticals spread across 65 therapeutic divisions. Over 170 countries are covered by the firm, including the United Kingdom, the United States, Germany, Australia, and others.
Cipla Medpro Pharmaceuticals is one of South Africa's top ten and fastest-growing pharmaceutical companies, and is listed on the Johannesburg Securities Exchange. The firm, formerly known as Enaleni Pharmaceuticals Ltd, is a major provider of chronic and generic medications.
Cipla Medpro Manufacturing, a Durban-based manufacturing plant, recently underwent an R195 million renovation to achieve international Pharmaceutical Inspection Co-operation Scheme (PIC/s) compliance, making it one of the first in South Africa to do so.
In 2005, the business paid R1.2 billion buying 100% of Cipla Medpro Products and is currently merging Cipla's portfolio into its own operations. Through a 20-year supply arrangement, Cipla is supplying a significant quantity of Enaleni's over-the-counter products to be repackaged in India. Cipla Medpro reported a 37.5 percent rise in sales in the first two months of 2007. The business now seeks to get a piece of the $400 million two-year retroviral HIV treatment deal with the South African government.
