Cable News Network ( CNN ) is a cable television network in the United States, owned by Turner Broadcasting System, a subsidiary of Time Warner. CNN was founded in 1980 by Ted Turner as a program broadcasting channel, 24 hours a day and 7 days a week.

CNN International was awarded the Medal of Freedom on July 4, 1997. Ted Turner, accepting the medal on behalf of the network, said: "My idea is, we're going to give people the truth.. We don't have to show freedom and democracy to be good, and to show socialism or totalitarianism to be bad, people will choose freedom and democracy." ( refer: wikipedia )
