Corpus Christi
Corpus Christi is a Catholic festival celebrated on the second Thursday after Whitsun. Corpus Christi means Body of Christ and refers to the elements of the Eucharist also referred to as holy communion, the Last Supper, or the Lord's L Supper. This is one of the most famous festivals in Liechtenstein, also known as 'Thanksgiving Day for Communion'.
The Corpus Christi is primarily a Roman Catholic feast, but it is also acknowledged in the calendars of a few Anglican churches. It is also honored by some Western Orthodox Christians. Across many parts of medieval Europe, Corpus Christi was a popular time for the performance of mystery plays. Along with Lent, Advent, Easter, Pentecost, and Christmas, Roman Catholic bishops have a duty to be present at their Church in Corpus Christi. This most famous festival in Liechtenstein takes place between streets and squares that were once richly decorated with Draperies and garlands.
