École Nouvelle de la Suisse Romande (ENSR)
Nestled in Lausanne, Switzerland, École Nouvelle de la Suisse Romande (ENSR) has been an icon of learning since its founding in 1906. The school reflects the ideals of the New Education movement, with its emphasis on the holistic development of children in a boarding school setting.
From its humble beginnings with 36 students in 1906, ENSR has grown to include approximately 600 students today. The school has a rich history of championing gender equality and its current campus, opened in 1909, reflects its commitment to providing an optimal environment for learning and development.
ENSR offers a variety of educational programs, from kindergarten with Montessori options through senior year of high school. What makes ENSR different is its unique approach to language teaching, allowing students to choose between a program in French and English or vice versa. Students can choose from two prestigious qualifications – the International Baccalaureate or the Swiss Mature Certificate – to suit their personal goals.
The curriculum at ENSR is designed to serve students of various ages. The bilingual approach starts early in kindergarten and continues through elementary, middle, and high school. Additional languages such as German, Latin, Greek, and Spanish are introduced at different stages. In high school, students can tailor their academic path by choosing between the International Baccalaureate Diploma and the International Baccalaureate Diploma.
ENSR has the distinction of being the first school in the world to be accredited by the International Baccalaureate Organization in 1971. The school is also accredited by the Council of International Schools, emphasizing its commitment to maintaining high educational standards. The school is an active member of educational associations such as AVDEP, FSEP, Swiss Label, NFI, and SEBIQ.
Beyond academia, ENSR promotes a global perspective through partnerships with institutions such as Schulle Schloss Salem in Germany. The school maintains close ties with Thailand through the Alumni Association and the Neotema Foundation, facilitating rich cultural exchanges between students and teachers.
