Emerald Lake
Emerald Lake is located in the town of Dorset, a historic marble mining town north of Manchester, and was created when glacier debris blocked a stream's discharge. The lake's northern end has a sand beach and grassy hillside, while the rest of the shoreline is underdeveloped and encircled by trees.
On the hilltop above the beach, the park has a campground, and boat rentals are provided (no motorized boats are allowed). Keep in mind that if you bring your own kayak, you will need to portage a distance to get to the beach from the parking area.
Emerald Lake is about 20 acres in size, but what it lacks in size is more than makes up for in beauty. Throughout the summer, swimmers, paddlers, sunbathers, and fishermen are drawn to the area by its crystal-clear green waters and sandy bottom. Although Emerald Lake is regarded as the best swimming hole in the area, this lovely park offers much more than just swimming. It's also the ideal location for family camping, a haven for dog lovers, and a hiker's heaven.
