Etherea (Coachella)
This is one of numerous works of art that were first displayed during Coachella festivals and have now found permanent residences throughout Greater Palm Springs. Etherea, a spectral wire-mesh sculpture by Italian artist Edoardo Tresoldi, is located at Sixth and Cesar Chavez Streets in Coachella and contrasts Baroque-style buildings with the city's arid surroundings.
The first of three works built during the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival in 2018 was the 54-foot-tall tower. Goldenvoice, the event's organizer, eventually donated it to Coachella, the city, which turned a vacant site into a public park to display the artwork and make it available to visitors.
The optical impression of Etherea changes with the light, weather conditions, and the viewpoints of spectators as they travel around and inside the building. It appears to breathe with the wind and clouds. In the end, it's a place for basic activities like gazing at the sky, taking in the clouds, and thinking about life.
