Casablanca’s colonial structure blends conventional Moroccan designs with French artwork Deco into a distinctive fashion known as Mauresque. The French-built city center and its formal, colonial buildings already seem to belong to a different and distant age. The style of the administrative homes especially is called Mauresque, or from time to time as “Neo-Moorish”, essentially a French idealization and “improvement” on conventional Moroccan patterns, with lots of horseshoe arches, or even the unusual touch, in the beginning, an Almohad motif. Downtown Casa is an al fresco museum of structure, from the neo-Moorish tiled façade of Los Angeles Grande Poste to artwork deco apartment blocks, and region Mohammed V’s uber-cutting-edge Grand Théâtre de Casablanca designed by French starchitect, Christian de Portzamparc.
