Ghost towns
Ghost towns abound in Colorado, many of which were abandoned due to mining conflicts in the early 1900s. Today, visitors can explore the parts of these villages that are still standing and learn more about their fascinating past. St. Elmo, which is roughly 80 miles southeast of Aspen and about 110 miles west of Colorado Springs, is one of the most well-known ghost towns in the state, though tourists should be aware that there are still full-time residents living there.
Here, tourists can examine the town's still-standing structures: A couple of these structures are accessible to visitors throughout the summer for tours. Many recommend going to St. Many advocate purchasing goods from the still-open general shop in St. Elmo as an excellent opportunity to learn about the state's silver and gold miners (open seasonally).
