A Taiwanese electronics manufacturing company is called GlobalWafers. They are the third-largest provider of silicon wafers in the world. 2018 saw major talent poaching difficulties from China that GlobalWafers was dealing with, according to Nikkei Asia. GlobalWafers announced its intention to acquire Siltronic, a German maker of silicon wafers, in 2020.

In 2022, when the German government was required to approve the acquisition of Siltronic, the deal fell through since it was not approved in time. GlobalWafers indicated that they will be allocating the more than $3 billion USD set aside for the acquisition to capacity development after their bid to acquire Siltronic failed. They were the third-largest provider of silicon wafers in the world in 2022.

The most recent financial reports from GlobalWafers show that the company's current revenue (TTM) is $2.30 billion.
