Go on a Pilgrimage to Palitana Temples
The Palitana temples are a large group of Jain temples placed on Shatrunjaya hill close to Palitana, Bhavnagar district, Gujarat, India. The fact that the temple complex was built in the 11th century and took more than 900 years to complete proves how magnificent it is. The dense concentration of more than 800 small and big temples has made people refer to Palitana as the "City of Temples," which was once known as Padliptapur of Kathiawad in historical sources. Visiting Palitana Temples will be a great choice for those who want to seek serenity, discover Jainism's history and witness a dazzling sight of beautiful marble-carved architecture.
Most of the temples are situated at a height of 603 meters on the Shatrunjaya hill so pilgrims have to climb over 3500 stairs to reach the main temples. It will take you more than 2 hours to get to the destination and nearly a day to wander among hundreds of temples there. You may find the pilgrimage a rigorous and exhausting one but the spectacular view the temples offer will not leave you disappointed. As you reach the top of the hill, you should explore these popular and splendid temples, which are Chaumukh, Adinath, Vimal Shah, Samavasaran, Narsinh Kesharji, etc. The temples are closed for visiting by 6 pm so it is recommended that you go up there in the daytime for the best experience.
