One of the best free things to do in Ohio is the National Museum of the US Air Force. In the vicinity of Dayton, the museum is situated on Wright-Patterson Air Force Base. You will stroll through a time capsule of aviation history with indoor and outdoor exhibits featuring more than 360 aeronautical artefacts.
Since the first successful airplane was created by Ohio natives Wilbur and Orville Wright, the museum holds significant significance for the state. You do not have to be an aviation enthusiast to enjoy the visit, which covers everything from the Wright brothers' innovation to modern stealth technology, military aircraft, and space flight.
The Presidential Gallery, where you may browse a number of restored planes used by Presidents Roosevelt, Truman, and Eisenhower, is one of the museum's most notable sections. Six miles outside of Dayton, Ohio, is where the National Museum of the U.S. Air Force (NMUSAF) is located. This educational and engaging site, formerly known as the United States Air Force Museum, is home to more than 360 aircraft and missiles. The Engineering Division at Dayton's McCook Field started preserving technical relics in 1923, which is when the museum first opened.
Today, the museum is home to some of the most well-known airplanes in the world, including SAM 26000, the Boeing 727 that John F. Kennedy used to travel to Dallas on the day of his assassination, the Boeing B-29 Superfortress that dropped the Fat Man atomic bomb on Nagasaki, and presidential aircraft used by Franklin D. Roosevelt, Harry Truman, and Dwight D. Eisenhower. Every year, more than a million people visit the NMUSAF.
