The Great Lakes Coffee company was officially established in 1999 in Uganda, but the brand's history goes back all the way to 1927 when Mr. Vrasidas Nicolaides & Mr. Andreas Odyseos immigrated from Cyprus to the Belgian Congo and set up various trading companies in the Belgian Congo in the 1940s. The brand was created during this time as coffee was one of the most traded products.

Today, Great Lakes Coffee is Uganda's best green coffee sourcing, milling, and exporting company. Moreover, the brand also builds community wet mills, creates access to finance, provides training for farmers, and pays for the certification of smallholder farmer groups.
