Guarico river
The Guárico River is a river in the Central Plains of Venezuela, essential in the system of irrigation reservoirs in the Guárico state for various crops and for the supply of drinking water in Caracas in the Camatagua reservoir. It has a length of 525 km. It originates at an altitude of 770 m in the interior mountain range of the Coastal Range. In its upper section, the Pao and Caramacate rivers flow before forming the Camatagua reservoir.
On its way through the Llanos, it receives the Taguay and Paya rivers, converging at the Guárico reservoir. When leaving the reservoir in Calabozo, its course wanders in meanders below 100 m of altitude, flowing into the Orituco River. In the last part of its route it confuses its waters with spills from the Apure River, taking the place name of Apurito, flowing into the Orinoco River.
The Guárico River Basin is included into the delivery machine of the Metropolitan Region thru the Tuy III, or Camatuy, machine that consists of water from the reservoir to the remedy plant and from there to the Metropolitan Area of Caracas.
