Guava

Guava is a common tropical fruit cultivated in many tropical and subtropical regions. The common guava Psidium guajava (lemon guava, apple guava) is a small tree in the myrtle family (Myrtaceae), native to Mexico, Central America, the Caribbean, and northern South America. Guava is a common fruit that appears in many delicious Jamaican foods. Jamaicans love the refreshing glass of guava juice on summer days. Depending on the species, guava fruits are either round or oval and range in size from 4 to 12 centimeters. The thickness of the skin varies between species, and it is often green before maturation but can turn yellow, maroon, or green when it is fully developed. Off-white ("white" guavas) to deep pink, the pulp inside can be sweet or sour ("red" guavas). Depending on the species, the amount and hardness of the seeds in the core pulp vary.
