Harvard Square
Harvard Square is an intellectual and eccentric neighborhood with a diverse range of languages, ages, and cultures. Harvard Square, located on the southeastern corner of Harvard University in Cambridge, is home to a variety of boutiques, indie specialty stores, restaurants, bookshops, and bars. This is more of a shopping district than a mall or shopping center, yet it has a bohemian air, is filled by young students, and offers a diverse selection of items and services that you won't find at your standard mall.
You can also go to a pavement café and sit with a cup of coffee and people watch. The campus is highlighted by a diverse mix of historic structures, and the renowned Harvard University Museum houses extensive collections. There are charming coffee shops, good dining venues, and a diverse mix of shopping options, including fashionable boutiques and modern large box merchants. The Garage is a shopping mall housed in a multi-story parking building that has been repurposed. The Curious George Store is dedicated to the fictitious monkey and offers a variety of kid-themed merchandise to parents. Harvard Square has a number of street performers and works of public art in addition to its college student-fueled bohemian ambiance.
The Square is the epicenter of the city's nightlife, including venues such as the Oberon, Noir, and Sinclair. Top neighborhood eateries include the Russell House Tavern, Border Café, and Otto, which is famed for its pizza. Winter Carnival, Chinese New Year, Mayfair, and Sparklefest are all annual events. Throughout the year, the Square also hosts a number of food, music, and cultural festivals.
