Hatillo Mask Festival
Hatillo is a lovely coastal town on Puerto Rico's north coast, bordering the Atlantic Ocean. Every year, the people of the town celebrate a tradition known as the Masks Festival with great zeal. This annual event commemorates the Holy Innocents, also known as Christian martyrs. The residents of the town celebrate it as a very special day, with men and women of all ages dressed up in colorful costumes. They are completely covered from head to toe and are accompanied by traditional music. The participants walk through the streets of the town and neighboring towns such as Camuy and Arecibo.
Hatillo Mask Festival is a famous carnival and one of Puerto Rico's most popular festivals. Colorful costumes combined with traditional music have resulted in a distinct Puerto Rican culture. Especially when men and women of all ages dress up in bright costumes to share Puerto Rican culture with the rest of the world. That is why Hatillo is such a famous festival in Puerto Rico.
