Hiking and Trekking Paradise
China's mist-covered landscapes, which have been depicted in ink for millennia, offer some of the most evocative and breathtaking trekking scenery anywhere in the world. You'll come across jaw-dropping vistas at every turn, whether you're walking in Confucius' footsteps on the slopes of Mount Tai, moving between watchtowers on the Great Wall, or fighting vertigo among the gravity-defying spires of Zhangjiajie.
China is home to some of the largest mountain ranges in the world as well as numerous national parks with miles of trails and paths. The difficulty level of hikes ranges from leisurely forested strolls to strenuous mountain treks. For the more experienced mountaineers, there are also a few glaciers and towering cliffs. There are countless options, but getting to the trailheads can occasionally be challenging. Although there are some locations with huts and lodges where you can spend the night, it is generally a good idea to pack a tent for overnight excursions.
