Hokkaido International School
Founded in 1958, Hokkaido International School (HIS) stands as Hokkaido's sole accredited international school, validated by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges. It proudly holds membership in prestigious international school councils like JCIS and EARCOS, reflecting its commitment to delivering quality education.
HIS offers a comprehensive curriculum, beginning with Reggio Emilia-inspired early years learning and progressing through the International Primary Curriculum in elementary school and the International Middle Years Curriculum in middle school. At the high school level, a college-preparatory curriculum culminates in Advanced Placement (AP) courses, preparing students for higher education.
Hokkaido International School provides a nurturing environment for boarding students, offering modern dormitory facilities and a supportive living experience. With an expanded capacity for 40 students, the boarding program caters to grades 7–12, promoting a comfortable and engaging space for students away from home.
The school's commitment to holistic development extends beyond academics, with a strong emphasis on outdoor education and extracurricular activities. Adventure Hokkaido Outdoor Club (AdHOC) allows students to explore Hokkaido's scenic beauty through various outdoor expeditions, fostering friendships and enhancing outdoor skills.
With an enrollment of 170 to 200 students, HIS fosters a rich, multicultural community from 30 countries. Whether through rigorous academics, diverse cultural experiences, or thrilling outdoor adventures, Hokkaido International School stands as one of the best boarding schools in Japan.
