Hole in the Wall Beach
The beach at McCook's Point Park in East Lyme is called "Hole in the Wall" because it has a tunnel entrance that is located beneath the railroad tracks. It is one of the best beaches in Connecticut. If you plan to spend the day visiting the area, you can park here since it is where the Niantic Bay Boardwalk entrance begins. This beach is ideal for families with young children as it is smaller in size. From Memorial Day through Labor Day, lifeguards are on duty, and there are convenient foot showers by the restroom for quick cleanup.
It takes only a few minutes to walk to both the Gumdrops and Lollipops confectionery shop for those with a sweet tooth and the Ice Cream Diner for a noon refreshment. Another nearby attraction that provides a wonderful shady option on very hot days is the Niantic Children's Museum, which is only a block from the beach. The museum offers interactive exhibits and play sessions with educational components for children aged nine months to nine years.
