Ice Caves of Katla

Katla is a massive volcano that is always covered in a thick ice cap and is one of the Most Beautiful Caves in Iceland. If you visit Iceland in the summer, this is one of the few places where you can safely explore the Ice Caves. The volcano is still active and erupts every 50 years or so. Katla is close to Vik, which is known for its black volcanic beaches and an intact US navy plane wreck that you can still hike out to see. Katla's incredible Ice Caves are striped with layers of black volcanic ash. You might recognize the location from the Star Wars Rogue One film! Make sure you're dressed warmly because it's very cold inside the cave.

After arriving at the starting point of your adventure by super jeep, you will be outfitted with crampons and hard hats to keep you safe. Your knowledgeable guides will tell you about the cave's history and future plans. If you visit Iceland in the winter, you will have many more opportunities to visit and explore our country's incredible ice caves. The Ice Caves, on the other hand, melt and reform every year. Rather than planning a trip to a specific Ice Cave, go with a tour company that has good reviews and a lot of experience. Each year, they will choose which Ice Caves to visit.
