Immortal Samsara
Immortal Samsara, a 2022 Chinese drama directed by Guo Hu and Ren Hai Tao, draws inspiration from Su Mo's novel Agarwood Like Crumbs. Set in a celestial realm above the clouds, the story revolves around deities and spirits enjoying peace after a historic agreement among rival kingdoms.
Starring Yang Zi as Yan Dan and Cheng Yi as Ying Yuan, the Sovereign Lord, the plot kicks off with Ying Yuan thwarting the theft of a powerful treasure, the Four-Leafed Lotus. This celestial artifact takes human form as two sisters, Zhi Xi and Yan Dan, played by Zoey Meng and Yang Zi, respectively.
Despite Yan Dan's attraction to Ying Yuan, fate separates them for years. In the mortal realm, Ying Yuan becomes Tang Zhou, a demon hunter, unaware of his celestial past. The chance encounter with Yan Dan, accompanied by her friend Yu Mo (Zhang Rui), raises questions about forgotten connections.
Tang Zhou joins Yan Dan and Yu Mo on a quest for ancient artifacts, all three oblivious to their shared celestial history. The unfolding adventure prompts the central question: Can they ever recover their memories and rediscover the emotions they once held for each other?
