Isla Margarita
Margarita is a Caribbean island off the coast of Venezuela. It is part of the state of Nueva Esparta and is located off the northeastern coast of the mainland, northeast of the country's capital Caracas. With a total size of 934 km2, hilly topography, and a warm Caribbean climate, Margarita Island (Isla de Margarita) is the largest island off Venezuela's Nueva Esparta State. Because it is only a short distance off the northern coast of Venezuela's mainland, it is only a 35-minute flight or a couple of hours by sea taking the ferry from Puerto La Cruz or Cumana. It is known as the "Pearl of the Caribbean" because of its gorgeous beaches with kilometers of white sand and tropical beaches with seawater lapping at the coast. It is one of Venezuela's most beautiful destinations.
A popular tourist destination in Venezuela, especially among residents for duty-free shopping, is a terrific area to visit for beachcombing and adventure sports like wind and kite surfing. Beach bars, discos, salsa clubs, and fine dining restaurants abound in this region's vibrant nightlife.
