Karlsruhe Institute of Technology
The Karlsruhe Institute of Technology is an elite public research university in the German state of Baden-Württemberg, as well as a national research center in the Helmholtz Association, which is one of Germany's largest educational institutions and largest research institution in terms of funding. KIT is a member of the TU9, an incorporated society of Germany's largest and most prestigious technological institutes. Under the direction of Ferdinand Redtenbacher, science-based mechanical engineering was established in the university part of today's KIT in the mid-nineteenth century, which influenced the establishment of other technical universities, such as ETH Zurich in 1855.
