Embedded computer modules, boards, and systems are the specialty of Kontron AG, a German multinational corporation. The many industries that benefit from Kontron AG's products and services include industrial automation, communications, transportation, energy, avionics, medicine, entertainment, and the military. Kontron creates, manufactures, and exports goods all over the world.
The Intel Embedded Alliance counts Kontron as one of its most prominent members. The Augsburg-based Kontron Europe GmbH comprises four regional offices in Ismaning, Augsburg, Deggendorf, and Saarbrücken. Besides San Diego and Fremont, there are also offices in Montreal, Prague, Toulouse, Bangalore, Taipei, Tokyo, and Beijing. In 2005, Kontron purchased Dolch.
In 2007, during the Embedded World trade exhibition, Kontron debuted a product using a "Universal Graphics Module" (UGM-M72). The M72S from ATI Technologies was used on the 84 x 95 mm card. In August 2008, Advanced Micro Devices (AMD; ATI's parent company) announced that it would support the UGM, following the publication of version 1.1 of the UGM in July 2008. Until the onset of the Great Recession in 2009, XGI Technology co-sponsored a website devoted to promoting the module.
