Maico
Maico, also known as Maicowerk GmbH, is a historic German motorcycle manufacturer with a strong legacy in the motocross and enduro racing scene. The company was founded in 1926 by Ulrich Maisch and began its journey by producing bicycles. However, it didn't take long for Maico to venture into motorcycle manufacturing, and by the late 1920s, they were producing their first motorcycles.
Throughout the 20th century, Maico gained prominence as one of the leading brands in the off-road motorcycle industry. They became especially known for their motocross and enduro motorcycles, which were highly regarded for their performance, durability, and engineering excellence.
One of Maico's most iconic models was the "Maico 501," a powerful 500cc two-stroke motocross bike. The Maico 501 was renowned for its exceptional power-to-weight ratio and agility, making it a formidable competitor in the motocross racing circuits during the 1970s and 1980s. However, like many other motorcycle manufacturers, Maico faced financial challenges and ownership changes over the years. As a result, the company experienced periods of decline and revival throughout its history.
