Marriage Story (2019)

Noah Baumbach wrote and directed the 2019 drama film Marriage Story, which he also produced with David Heyman. Scarlett Johansson and Adam Driver lead, with Laura Dern, Alan Alda, Ray Liotta, Julie Hagerty, and Merritt Wever providing support.

The project was announced in November 2017, with the cast joining that same month. Filming took place in New York City and Los Angeles from January to April of the following year. Netflix released the film, had its world premiere at the Venice Film Festival on August 29, 2019, and began a limited theatrical release on November 6, followed by digital streaming on December 6.

'Marriage Story' is a drama movie directed, written, and co-produced by Noah Baumbach. It centers upon the complicated relationship of an actress and her well-accomplished stage director husband. After counseling to settle their marital troubles, the couple fails to resolve their issues, and their problems persist. While 'Marriage Story' does not capture the complexities of the husband-wife relationship in its entirety, it does give an intimate understanding of conflicts that often arise when a couple falls out of love.

Among its many accolades, Marriage Story received six nominations at the 92nd Academy Awards, including Best Picture, Best Original Screenplay, Best Actor (Driver), and Best Actress (Johansson). For her performance, Dern won the Academy Award, the Golden Globe, the Screen Actors Guild Award, the BAFTA Award for Best Supporting Actress, and the Critics' Choice Movie Award.
