Mary, Star of the Sea Church

The Mary, Star of the Sea Church is a Catholic religious church in the village of Grand Case, in the French section of Saint Martin. As its name suggests, it is dedicated to Saint Mary, Mother of God, in her invocation of Mary Star of the Sea, (Latin: Stella Maris). The church is part of the Catholic Diocese of Willemstad, which is situated on the island of Curacao, and follows the Roman or Latin liturgy. It is easily mistaken for the catholic church of the same name but is located in the Dutch sector of the island.

In 1897, the Mary, Star of the Sea Church began as a modest chapel, which was eventually replaced by a larger construction. Since then, It is also one of the most beautiful historical sites in Saint Martin. In the 1940s, it was built in parallel with the Catholic Church of Marigot (dedicated to Saint Martin of Tours). In 1965, the church was dedicated to St. Mary Star of the Sea. Princess Juliana International Airport is 7.2 miles (11.6 kilometers) away from Mary, Star of the Sea Church. The English language is used for all masses and religious services.
