May protect against infection
A parasite condition called leishmaniasis is carried by sand fly bites. In the tropics, subtropics, and some parts of Southern Europe, it is widespread. It's interesting that some substances found in sassafras are supposed to aid in treating it. Sassafras bark extract demonstrated anti-leishmaniasis effectiveness against promastigotes, the type of parasite that invades a host's skin, according to test-tube research.
However, keep in mind that a substance derived from sassafras was employed in this study in a concentrated form. Sassafras may have anti-leishmaniasis qualities in humans or may be able to cure other parasitic illnesses, but further research is required to determine this.
