Mount Batur
For all travellers, the question of how many islands there are in Indonesia is self-evident. There are many, but Mount Batur is one of the most well-known. The trek to the top of Mount Batur, one of the most visited volcanic sites, is arduous but well worth it for the breathtaking views of the still-active volcano. The scenery is breathtaking and if you manage to climb up here early in the morning, you will be rewarded in every way. The sun rises in the early morning hours and offers an incredible colour show that you shouldn’t miss.
Mount Batur is the most active volcano on the island, while Lake Batur is the largest lake and plays an important role in the lives of the locals. Nature lovers can enjoy magnificent sunrise treks to the top of sacred Mt. Batur, bike tours through rice terraces and coffee plantations near Lake Batur, or take boat trips on the lake from Trunyan village when visiting this region. Another highlight is a visit to some old Balinese villages around the lake to learn about their traditional way of life and to take in the magnificent views of the surrounding mountains.
