Nevada Virtual Academy (NVVA)
The Nevada Virtual Academy (NVVA) is a free online public school for students in grades K-12 in Nevada. It's part of the K12 Inc. network and works with the Clark County School District. NVVA lets students earn a diploma by doing well in their courses, exams, and state assessments.
NVVA uses the K12 curriculum to give students a personalized and exciting learning experience. For example, if a sixth-grader is good at seventh-grade math and eighth-grade reading, we can make lessons that match their skills. The curriculum follows the state's academic standards and includes courses like language arts, math, science, history, art, health/PE, and music. High school students can also take AP® courses and many other classes they're interested in.
Since NVVA is a public charter school, there's no cost to attend. Families must ensure students have a computer, internet, and essential materials like printer ink and paper. Sixth-grade students spend about 50–60% of their time online, which increases in middle and high school.
Students also get weekly in-person lessons with a licensed teacher at a Learning Center. These centers are in the Las Vegas Valley, and there's a tutoring site in Reno. Families must take students to and from their in-person learning site on certain days.
Besides regular classes, NVVA offers fun activities, clubs, and events to unite students. There are outings, trips to cool places, picnics, and other social events. Students can also join virtual clubs or participate in local school activities.
