Nikkie de Jager began her career as a cosmetics and beauty blogger at the age of 14 after being inspired by other YouTube makeup instructional channels. De Jager began uploading videos to YouTube in 2008, at the age of 14, after being inspired by Lauren Conrad's cosmetics while watching MTV's The Hills while unwell.

Nikkie then began looking for instructions on YouTube to reproduce the look, and was inspired to start making her own. She enrolled in makeup classes at B Academy in Amsterdam after two years of streaming films. In 2011, she joined with Colourfool Agency and began working as a professional makeup artist. Her channel grew in popularity when the video "The Power of Makeup" went viral in 2015.

Nikkie routinely posts makeup tutorials and transformation videos for her admirers, as well as numerous beauty tips and tricks for her increasing global following. Her celebrity is the consequence of years of hard work and dedication. NikkieTutorials has over 13.8 million members and a net value of $1.7 million by 2021.
