NIUM

NIUM is a spin-off of the Luxembourg Centre for Systems Biomedicine (University of Luxembourg). The employees of this company are a strong team in which each member combines a vast track record in research and previous experience in startup and business development.

Since its founding, NIUM has paid close attention to gut health to offer high-quality related services such as microbiome and nutrition clinical analyses harnessing the technology of bioinformatics as well as conducting in vitro experiments to predict the impact of certain foods on the gut. On top of that, the company has constantly developed gut-on-a-chip models which mimic interactions between microbes and the gut. These chips are given to a stool sample, and after about 48 hours, the composition of the microbiome is examined. In addition, NIUM jointly cooperates with food companies to assign probiotic scores to products. After that, these food companies decide whether they want to go ahead with the development of their products.

In collaboration with Arizona State University College of Health Solutions, AZ WearTech Center and Aventyn in the U.S., NIUM is carrying out a pilot nutrition support study for ambulatory cancer patients. At a similar time, the biotech company has also partnered with the Luxembourg Institute of Health to investigate how incorporating fibres in people's diets affects specific gut bacteria.
